“Avoid and pay a little extra for another operator that actually provides a better and actual guided tour. Read bad reviews … I doubt that these clients including myself would lie about the bad experience, rather to warn everyone else and prevent you from making the same mistake … since Viator won’t. Firstly, not a guided tour, it’s dropping you off to 6 sites and suggesting what you can do e.g. riding a speed boat or getting on the ropeway cable car. Next, you have the “chauffeur” for ten hours … looking at the detailed itinerary, each site has 30mins to 1 hour allotment but that does not include you…”

“This trip was a disappointment- we spent 8.30am till almost 1pm basically on a big bus stopping once or twice for not much more than a bathroom break and souvenir shop, then lunch at a very average onsen restaurant- very little insight or history from our guide. The last hour or two were better on the rope way cable car and ‘pirate ship’ on the lake - but I could have done those two things easily just taking the train from Tokyo. If you like spending a whole day on a big bus, then this tour is for you.”
