The 15 Best Hiroshima and Miyajima Day Trips

24 reviewed

Most of these days pair the city with the ferry across to Miyajima, where the torii stands in the water and the tide decides whether you walk out to it. Below are the 15 trips, with what each covers, how long it takes from Kyoto or Osaka, and how much time is allowed at the Peace Memorial Park. Read those timings carefully before booking.

Peaceful Hiroshima & Miyajima UNESCO 1 Day Bus Tour - Peace Memorial Park plus the Peace Memorial Museum: time for context and personal stories

1.Peaceful Hiroshima & Miyajima UNESCO 1 Day Bus Tour

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 5,309 reviews · from $129Our pick

Peaceful Hiroshima and UNESCO Miyajima in one day: Atomic Bomb Dome, Peace Park and Museum, ferry to Itsukushima Shrine, plus optional lunch.

“Tour guide was great and helped with our problem of getting back to ship timely. However, the Hiroshima memorial is poorly managed with huge crowds allowed to pour in. (Not Viator’s fault). One way, jammed in, long winding path ( a la IKEA), couldn’t even turn back. I was close to a panic attack, could barely see the exhibits. Outdoor memorials are worth seeing. After a short ferry ride, Miyashima’s Torii is nice to see but this old person was too tired to walk quite a distance to the shrine.”

Our lunch trying authentic Japanese food was excellent and the trip around the island afterward was the perfect way to end the day. Transportation was seamless and our guide was extremely knowledgable!”

“The tour was supposed to be a full day tour, but when we got to Mayajima island we were all left there for two & a half hours to do our own thing before we had to meet up again for the ferry ride back to Hiroshima. This was really disappointing because unless you wanted to hike up the mountain there is nothing much to do there besides visit a shrine, look at souvenir shops or buy food from a take away shop, which you could do in less than an hour. The bomb dome & the museum at the Hiroshima Peace Park were very memorable experiences, but once again…”
